So, back in October, we had a snake in the backyard! It was on one of our patio posts when Brian went to let Sadie out & lock up the house.
From afar, it looked a bit like a rattlesnake. So, I went around the other side to check out its tail--no rattle. Then, I zoomed in with my camera on its head. Definitely NOT a pit viper. So, I wasn't concerned. It was decent size--not too big around, but was rather long. We decided to put it in a bucket (which I did--Brian's not too great around snakes) and we released it in the wash.
We figured it was a fluke thing with a rogue snake from the wash across the street. A friend's dad is a herpetologist and we found out from him that it was a Nightsnake.
Well, yesterday, Brian was moving a shed that had busted apart during a crazy windstorm we had the day before. All the sudden there was quite a commotion and everyone was hollering for me to "come here". I grabbed the camera and imagine my surprise when we found another snake--hiding right under where the shed was in between two pavers.
We contemplated just leaving him. But decided that between the boys and the dog, the ending for the snake might not be good. So, just like before, we opted to transport him to the wash. Andrew was SO excited (he was in bed during the previous snake incident). This one was smaller than the one before, but quite a bit more feisty! It did NOT like me messing with it! We put it in a bucket and then moved it over to the wash.
By the time we got across the street, it was all coiled up! And, it stayed that way until after we left!
So, crazy! Two Nightsnakes in our yard just a few months apart. Wonder what other creatures are residing out there?!

Ack! I would NOT be anywhere near either one of them! You are brave!
