It was Andrew’s choice–either an animal or a pirate. He went back and forth between a jaguar and pirate for weeks–even suggesting a “jaguar-pirate”, but eventually, the pirate won out. After all, pirates get to carry swords!
…and we made Andrew a pirate costume!
Aarrrrrr, mateys! I LOVE this picture of him!
The pirate costume was SO easy to make! We just cut up a pair of old “comfy” black pants (with a perfect knee hole in the them already), cut the sleeves on a white shirt, made an almost no-sew pirate vest (we just had to sew little 2-inch shoulder seams--a big thanks to Grammy for figuring that out!!), and got a cut of some awesome red fabric perfect for a sash! Then, I used the left overs to decorate a matching trick or treat bag for him.
Here’s a few “up-close” shots of the costumes:
We kicked off the night by heading to a different neighborhood (actually, it's Avi's neighborhood) where one of the houses constructs a GIANT pirate ship every year! Seriously it’s one of the coolest Halloween DIY things I’ve ever seen. It’s their WHOLE front yard/driveway/walkway, complete with firing cannons (shooting smoke), fog, lights, music–the works! Totally amazing! It was so fun to be in our pirate costumes around all of that!
Then, we headed back to our neighborhood where the boys had a blast trick or treating!
The highlight in our neighborhood is a cul-de-sac that goes all-out, especially when it comes to pumpkin carving! Seriously, look at these!! We especially like the pirate-themed carvings!
While we were trick or treating, the whole fam hung out in our driveway and hung out candy. It was a bit chilly that night, so they kept warm with a little heater and hot chocolate! I think the grandparents really enjoyed themselves! It was fun for them getting to see all the kids dressed up and it worked out great for us that we got to see everyone but didn't have to drive all over town! :)
It was a great night and we had a blast watching our little pirate & his little parrot!
And, just for fun, here's a comparison of our little parrots! :) Andrew on the top in 2008, and Eli on the bottom in 2011. So fun! I love this costume and it was so fun to get to use it again!
Fun! :)
