With the new school year upon us, I didn't get all the rest of our "summer" blogged about, so I thought I'd throw out a few tidbits...
One of our highlights in the weeks leading up to the start of school, was Brian taking the day off and us heading over to one of Andrew's favorite places, "Pump it Up!". I've taken him a few times, but it was so fun for Daddy to get to experience it with him. We always meet Andrew's friend Avi there with his Dad, Marc. The boys have SUCH a good time.
Another fun thing about our summer was taking Andrew to the movies for the first time. My mom and I took him to see, "Up"--definitely WAY deep and way beyond his understanding. But, he loved the boy, the balloons, and "Kevin", the bird. And, he was AWESOME! He sat on my lap & watched the ENTIRE thing--no interruptions, no problems--Just held his blankey & ate some popcorn & drank his sippy. Contrary to what the pictures suggest, no he didn't have a large soda! :)
He did such a good job that we went to the Ice Age Dinosaurs movie the week before school started. He thinks it is pretty fun and pretty special! :)
We definitely did more swimming (and still are on the weekends) & had a few more mornings at the waterpark. He has gotten so much better at swimming in just a few short weeks and is now "swimming" the length of the pool by himself, if he has his life-jacket on. Without the life jacket, he is able to do a bit of underwater swimming to one of us (about 4-5 feet) too. And, he has become quite adventurous with jumping in the water--sometimes a little too much!
The last fun summer tidbit I'll leave you with is a few highlights of his Mary Poppins dancing. I have some video footage that I am working on, but in the meantime, these pictures will have to do. He certainly loves "Step In Time", but also has taken quite a liking to "Jolly Holiday" (which he calls 'Old MacDonald') and the "Penguins". Because of this, his grammy was compelled to get him a cane & hat. It certainly has been a hit and sits neatly perched (his doing) on his rocking horse when not in use. His dancing skills have become quite good and it has to be one of the most adorable & hilarious things I have ever seen!
And now, as I type, he is dancing around the house with the hat & cane singing over & over "Big Brass Band" as he pounds his cane over his hat (and no, Mary Poppins isn't on). ;)
We definitely have to get these kids together...we watch scenes from Mary Poppins ("The Dancing Penguins" is a favorite) almost daily! Annie wanders the house singing parts of Jolly Holiday!
