While it is impossible to know for sure how much a 2.5 year old really comprehends about a pregnancy and upcoming baby, I can say with utmost certainty that Andrew is fully aware that there is a baby in my belly and he will have a baby "brudder".
For the first 6 months of this pregnancy, we didn't share with Andrew directly about the baby being inside of me and him having a baby brother. We certainly didn't want to say anything too early! Instead, we talked more about babies in general.
Then, over winter break, there was an incident where Andrew jumped on me--right on my belly. So, it seemed the right time to share with him that he had to be careful with Mommy because there is a baby in there.
His reaction: "wanna see it".
Me: "Well, you can't see him because he's in my belly".
Andrew: "Wanna scare him" (then puts up his "claw fingers", leans over to my belly and says "Roooooaaarrr").
Hilarious!
There have been numerous exchanges then in the last few weeks about the baby coming. I told him he would have a baby brother and asked what we should name the baby. His first response: "Buzz Lightyear". (I knew it!). But, ever since then (and Christmas), when asked the question, Andrew exclaims, "Baby Jegus" (Jesus). So cute!
Also, what has been adorable is that he wants his "baby brudder" to play with his "train pack" with him (I've had to tell him that his baby brother will be too small to play trains at first, but once they both get a bit bigger, his baby brother will LOVE to play trains with him!). Then, yesterday, we had Kinley over to play. When I told Andrew she was coming over, he said, "no, want my baby brudder to come play".
And, if all that wasn't enough to melt your heart, here was how bedtime prayers went the other night:
(Backstory: We say a version of "Now I lay me Down to Sleep" that my parents taught me with an addition at the end of "God Bless my family and my friends, thank you for everything, I love you, Amen". Sometimes Andrew has liked to list out names of people or toys when we get to this part). So, I am saying the prayer and Andrew is very quiet--not really saying it with me. Then, I come to: "God Bless my family and my friends"...and Andrew chimes in and says: "my baby brudder". How sweet is that?!
Baby brother is doing just fine--moving around A LOT and getting bigger (he should weigh around 2.5 pounds right now and be close to 15 inches). In the last couple of weeks, I've just started to get some of the aches that come with the 3rd trimester, but am doing well. Can't believe we are just about to 30 weeks! I think the time is going to fly by and am now feeling like we have quite a bit to do (i.e. pick a name, hospital tour, get some supplies, etc).
Here's the most recent "belly photo":

In both photos I am within days of 26 weeks. I still feel like I am bigger this time around (first photo). I thought maybe I was weighing more than I did with Andrew at this point, so I decided to check the copy I have of my chart from Andrew after this last Dr.'s appointment and I actually weigh the same (literally, to the pound--weird!). And, so far, my measurements have been right on with the week I am, so I guess I'm not--or maybe he's just in a different position than Andrew. Who knows?!
I love this! So sweet!
