101 in 1001--Goal #16 Complete!

"Find a way to supplement income while staying at home"

I am SO excited to have a goal completed--and such an important one as well! Although I am not staying at home (yet!), I have found a way to supplement our income enabling me to do that after this new little man arrives!
Last night I began my training as a developer for Adaptive Curriculum.
Our school is on a trial of the Adaptive Curriculum materials and they are really cool, especially the graphics (you can check out the samples on the website)!
Months ago, I had already assigned a couple of the activities to the students and the kids really seemed to think it was good. So, I was already familiar with the software. Then, the job sort of fell into my lap after one of our other teachers (who was a developer) had to quit. She told me about it right away and gave them my name. It's all about timing & who you know, right?! After submitting my resume and answering a few questions, they said they'd like to hire me as a developer! Woo HOO!
The company creates the activities (with the cool graphics, animations, etc.), but then the developers are hired to essentially do/fix all the writing & curriculum. So, I will be doing things like providing feedback on activities & writing ancillary materials (objectives, assessments, teacher guides, etc). Although I do definitely enjoy working with the kids (well, most of them anyway), one of my real strengths & things that I enjoy about teaching is developing/redesigning materials. Since having Andrew, I have long hoped to find an internet teaching position or something in education that would allow me to essentially work from home. So, this is absolutely perfect and I can hardly express how excited I am!!
We are hired on a project basis & get paid per package we complete. Thus, it isn't anywhere close to a normal salary and likely will not be the same amount each month. But, if I could complete just two packages a month (which seems very doable if I wasn't teaching), I would be bringing home the same amount of money next year as if I was teaching & had both boys in daycare. Anything extra, and I would be making MORE!!! The gal who is doing my training has gotten all of her girlfriends on board as well--all of whom used to teach & now work from home doing this while getting to stay at home with their kids.
So, as if the next few weeks weren't stressful enough & filled with enough change, I began a 2nd job this week! :) But, I am more than happy to do it, as it means a great change for our family next year. I'm not sure how long being a developer will last (as they will only have so many activities to do), but I am ecstatic to have my "foot in the door" and am hopeful it will lead to opportunities allowing me to stay at home with my little brood of boys for quite awhile! :)
