Vegas!

Last Friday morning, Brian and I headed off for our first ever Vegas getaway (I have a feeling there will be more). Brian had never been and I'd only been once for a couple days with my parents. This time, it was a trip with no kids, no parents, but a couple of friends instead. (Thanks again to my parents who stayed with the boys!) :)
We flew out first thing in the morning. It's a really short flight with some really cool views--we saw the Grand Canyon and lots of Lake Mead from the air.
We were able to get a super sweet deal on rooms at the Tropicana (like half off) through AAA.
They have been in the process of remodeling everything and we were quite impressed. Our rooms were great (somehow missed taking a picture) and for the price, it was fantastic!! The rooms had a nice look/feel and Megan & I quite enjoyed their signature "tropical/beachy" scent! :) The view from our room was even cool!
Brian and I enjoyed checking out different iconic Vegas things --like the MGM lions at "snack time". WOW are they big!!
And, the Bellagio fountains, gardens, and Chihuly blown glass. We saw the fountains 4 different times in total and it was a different show each time! :)
Check out the 800+lb pumpkins!! The gardens were all decked out for fall and those pumpkins were crazy!!
We made it to a good majority of the big casinos--at least to just see the crazy decor. In Caesar's, on my very first slot, I had such good beginner's luck--winning $75 on a penny slot with a 25 cent bet! :) Sweet!!!
So, even with some other gambling (and losing), we'll still came out ahead from my winnings! YAY! Brian had terrible luck with the slots and was totally burned by his Star Wars machine that he just had to play! :)
Through Megan's coaxing, he tried out Roulette and promptly lost there too! (that's Megan's blonde head on the left! And, sadly, this is the only picture evidence we have of being all dressed up on Saturday night.)
But, he quadrupled his money at video poker. So, that was nice too! :) We also enjoyed getting free blackjack lessons at a table in Excalibur on Saturday morning. But, we were too chicken to play a $10 table, so instead, played 25 cent video blackjack! :)

We some super yummy food while we were there. Through Groupon (which is a fantastic site by the way and you should totally sign up if you've not already) we snagged up some great half price gift certificates for a restaurant called "Chocolate by the Bald Man".
Um...so good! Through a miscommunication, we ended up having 3 certificates, so we happily ate there 3 times! :) The first was lunch on Friday. Then, we met up with Brian's cousin Mike's wife, Nicole (she's an optometrist & was in town for a big Vision Expo) for drinks & some food that night. It was fun to see her and catch up for awhile--especially in such a cool atmosphere.
And, then, we went with Megan & Juan for afternoon treats on Saturday.
Everything was delicious--even things that sound weird, like waffle fries dusted with coco powder or dark chocolate ranch. The desserts were crazy!! All us science nerds loved how extra drinks/toppings came out in little beakers. So cute! (And, contrary to what these pictures show, we did eat at other places too! All of which were quite good, but just not as cute & chocolatey as this, hence the lack of photos)
Megan and Juan got in late Friday night, so we hung out with them all day Saturday. Saturday night, we had tickets to a Cirque Du Soleil show for 10pm. Brian and Megan found us some great seats at 1/2 price! The show was very "Vegas" and great!! It made for some interesting car ride discussion topics on the way home! :)
Afterward we went to a few different casinos before calling it a night (or an early morning). And, sadly, I didn't take any pictures of us that night--we were all glammed up and everything. Guess it was a sign that I was having too much fun and couldn't be bothered with pictures! :)
On Sunday, we had a delicious brunch at a restaurant called Border Grill inside Mandalay Bay. It was yet another one of our sweet deals (this trip could have also been called, "how to do Vegas on the cheap" as we hardly paid regular price for anything). Then, we headed out of town and drove back home. Definitely fun to do a car ride with friends--makes the time go by pretty quickly!
Brian and I both agreed that we could have used another day (or 2) to see & do some of the other things we wanted. And, the uninterrupted sleep & afternoon naps were pretty nice too! ;)
So, I think another weekend getaway will be in order at some point--as long as Grammy & Grampy are willing to watch the boys again! :)
Thanks to Megan & Juan for a fun-filled weekend! :)
