Halloween Preview...

The Halloween festivities kicked off yesterday with Andrew's trick or treat parade at school. Some teachers in our building, along with staff in the media center and front office, bring in treats for the kids and allow them to come through their rooms.  I actually got to go around with Andrew this year (the perks of having a student teacher & being on plan)--it was SO much fun!  Aside from watching the little ones parade around, it is really neat to see some of the student reactions to the kids.  Some of them were giving the little ones high fives--so cute!
We decided to keep with our "tradition" and have Andrew be an animal again this year.  :)
So, first the lobster...
Then, the parrot...

And now, a beetle...

Just as we did with the parrot costume last year, my mom and I made the bug costume.  Ironically, the only bug costumes I could find on-line or in stores are either bee, ladybug, & butterfly costumes for girls.   So, when we decided on a bug theme this year, it was time to put something together ourselves.  And, I don't think it's half-bad.  Plus, one perk is that we got all the materials for costumes for all 3 of us for only $20!
Andrew wasn't too keen on trying anything on when we were making it, but once it was time for the parade, he did great!  He even kept his bug head on the whole time.
When the parade first started he was a little unsure and wanted Mommy to stay right with him, but after a few classrooms & an ever-expanding bag full 'o treats he was ready to go it alone!  Some of my students got a big kick out of seeing him and thought it was fitting that I would dress my kid up as an insect! :)  Too funny.

He definitely had a good time.  And, as the above picture shows, he has been quite excited about his bags of treats.  Now, we are getting ready to have a little pumpkin carving "party" with my parents. Then, tomorrow there will definitely be some festivities--Andrew has excitedly been telling anyone who asks that "Andrew be a bug, Daddy be a bug catcher and Mommy be a butterfly".  We shall see how our little bug family turns out tomorrow. ;)
