Andrew quite enjoyed running through the fields, patting many a pumpkin. Grandma & Grandpa picked out a nice, perfectly round one. We opted for something a bit smaller for Andrew--he even got to bring it home & it sits happily on the shelves in our front room. :)
Once done in the fields, we had loads of fun on the farm. There was a lot of open space, good for running around & two BIG tire swings. Andrew was a little skeptical, but thought it was pretty fun to watch Grandma.
Another great thing about Pooley's is that there are animals to see, pet, hold, and even ride. Andrew wanted nothing to do with riding the pony, but did quite enjoy seeing all the different animals. There were chicks, baby bunnies, pigs, goats--even a baby cow. Of all of these though, Andrew loved feeding the chickens. I think he would have been content to do that all afternoon.
Given our location, it comes as no surprise that one thing this farm was certainly not lacking was corn!
They had HUGE fields of corn on their property out by the pumpkin patch and had made a great little corn maze that we trekked through, letting Andrew decide that we should go "this way, no that way". Along the way, he was quite interested in all the corn cobs that had fallen off.
Of all the things involving corn, the decisive crowd favorite we found on our way out--a little place appropriately named, "cornyville". Cornyville is an old grain silo that they lined with hay bales & then filled the bottom with about 6-8 inches of dried corn. What a fun, different version of a sandbox!!
The texture was so neat and we had a blast playing in the corn. There was corn throwing, filling buckets, covering up Andrew's legs, and as you can see, Andrew loved laying on it--a cool sensation, I'm sure.
Andrew would have happily stayed longer, but after about 20 minutes, I was finding that I am rather allergic to corn dust! So, after a good few hours on the farm we left, with pumpkins in tow, having had a wonderful time!
