So, whether you're a biology nerd like me or not, I think most people would agree that the human body, as evidenced during pregnancy, is such an amazing thing. Just over a month ago, I looked like this (and then got even bigger the following 3 weeks):
And now, two weeks after delivery, I look like this:
Although there are many things that I love about being pregnant (especially feeling the little life inside), I am happy to have things returning to "normal". I can not only see my feet again, but they are back to their normal size. And, I'm enjoying being able to lay on my stomach again--making putting Andrew to bed so much nicer! Best of all, at not even two weeks out, I had shed ALL my pregnancy weight gain (which was more this time than with Andrew...but I guess that makes sense since Eli weighed more than 2 pounds more!)...PLUS, I have dropped a few extra pounds as well! So, I actually weigh less than when I got pregnant! Woo hoo! Unfortunately though, even with my 'dramatic' weight loss, my 'pre-pregnancy' pants don't really fit yet. Amazing how you can weigh less, but your body shape has been totally altered! I'm not a fan of the post-partum 'marshmallow' stomach, but I suppose that's what happens when your body changes so drastically. Hopefully that too will return to "normal" in the next few weeks!
Even more miraculous than my expanding & shrinking body, is the fact that just over nine months ago, Eli was jut one little tiny, microscopic cell. One. Single. Cell. And now, he looks like this:
The past few days, Eli has been having more 'awake' time. We are enjoying seeing his eyes (which are blue, but very dark--much darker than Andrew's ever were. so there is definately the possibility that they may change to brown)! We've been developing a semi-routine and have actually been getting a reasonable amount of sleep all things considered. Overall, things are definitely easier this time around--even with a 3-year old in the house! The boys and I even survived our first day on our own, when Brian went in to work for awhile on Friday. It really wasn't too bad (but it wasn't the whole day either). And, Andrew has been really helpful and rather interested in what's going on with baby brudder. He wants to watch every time we do a bath, gives him a pat when he's crying, and has wanted to help feed him a few times. Very cute!!
Here's a glimpse at the past week:
Eli's first "sponge bath" at home ( and not too sure about it!)
So NOT enjoying getting dried off and REALLY wanting some food!!
A sweet big brother!!...
...who is really into lizards! How exciting that Daddy "caught" one!
We have Dr.'s appts. for both of them tomorrow (Eli's two week check & Andrew's 3-year check). Then, Daddy will be back at work full time. So, the next week should be interesting!
