Just keep swimming...

There has been A LOT of swimming going on around here! Andrew started swim lessons with the city on Monday the 7th. The first day was rough, as Andrew was a bit shy & didn't want to get in without me. But, he eventually warmed up to it. It helped that his teacher was really nice and was actually the teacher that we did Mom & Tot lessons with 2 summers ago.
As the week progressed though, they weren't doing as much as I would have liked. It was more like playtime and the class-size seemed too big! Lessons are only 30 minutes & when time is shared between 6 or 7 kids, that isn't much time. So, we started investigating more options and thanks to a wonderful offer from Andrew's great-grandma & grandpa, we signed him up for more private lessons at a place called Hubbard Family Swim School. They've been known in the valley for a LONG time!
So, he started Blitz lessons (4 lessons/week) with them on Monday the 14th. And, we LOVE them! He did more in one night at Hubbard than he had for a week at the city pool. The class sizes are much smaller & the set up is ideal. This is definitely a situation where the saying of "you get what you pay for" is definitely true!
It's all indoors, so we don't need to worry about sunscreen and Andrew is more comfortable in the warmer water (they keep it a constant 90 degrees). It seems funny to say that given our high temperatures here, but there was one breezy morning that the water was so cold, Andrew got out of the water early and was shaking!
His city lessons have been in the mornings at 9:30 and his Hubbard lessons are at 7:00pm. We decided to do it a little later, so that we could get dinner first and Brian could come too. It's been working out well--we shower him off right after lessons and get dressed into jammies. Then, he has a snack in the car on the way home. What has been difficult though is two lessons per day. We were signed up for another two weeks with the city and another week at Hubbard. So, we decided to cancel the city lessons for a refund and just stick with Hubbard. Given the cost, we can't afford to keep them up all summer, but we would like to do at least one more session since they are going so well and he likes them so much!
At Hubbard, Andrew is in the "Goldfish" level and he has almost all the skills for that level down except for the floating ones. So, that's what they are really working on with him and then he can progress to the "Jellyfish" class! :)
It's a really good atmosphere there and at the end of each lesson, they get to go down the big froggy slide! Andrew loves it!
Eli likes watching Andrew's lessons too! :)
We start our second week of those tonight and are hoping Andrew can master the rest of his "goldfish" skills.
In addition to the formal lessons, we've been doing a lot of swimming at Grammy & Grampy's house. It's been fun having some family time with everyone--Grammy, Grampy, Emily, Daddy, Mommy--even Eli's been in the water a couple of more times.
Andrew is really enjoying being in the water. So, I have a feeling this summer we will "just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming..."
