Ok...so this has to be one of the weirdest, most random things EVER. Like in the history of EVER! I'm not sure how many people can say they have shared this experience, but it can't be many!
The day after my birthday, I put a plate in the microwave to warm up a late lunch. The problem was that it had shiny, glittery "30s" all over it. Uh oh--METALLIC! Much popping, smoking, and small flames ensued. I quickly turned everything off and all was fine. But, then, the digital clock window caught my eye. It looked like something was dark in there and one of the numbers was blurred out. Great, I thought--somehow the smoke or flames damaged the clock, so I went over to get a closer look and almost jumped out of my skin! No smoke, no damage, but a what appeared to be a little gecko face staring at me. AGH!!!! I couldn't believe it and screamed at my mom who happened to be over. I didn't know if it was dead or alive or what...so my mom told me to tap the glass--agh....very alive. He jumped and ran down behind the number pad. UGH...how did a gecko get in that area of the microwave and most importantly, how to get him out?
I had no idea, nor did my mom and I was rather bothered by the whole thing. Then, next time I go in the kitchen, it's not just his face there to great me, but his WHOLE self--basking in the digital clock glow. OH. MY. GOODNESS.
And, clearly not a gecko either, but a full-fledged lizard!! Good grief! Much freaking out on my part ensued, followed by banging on the microwave, turning on the fan vent, turning on the microwave, etc--anything we could think of to prompt him to leave. He quickly disappeared down behind the numbers again and wasn't seen for the rest of the night. However, the cat alerted us to the fact that he was still there when she jumped on the stove that night, stood up on her back legs, sniffing the air, meowing loudly, and scratching/pawing the number pad to no end!
Still, I didn't see him again...until Friday afternoon. There he was again, fully sprawled out under those green digital numbers. AGH! I got him to disappear again, but as you probably guessed, he showed back up. This time on Saturday, revealing his back to us instead.
Brian, who was FAR less bothered by the whole thing than I was, did a little tinkering in hopes of opening something or doing something to get him to leave, but didn't seem to get too far. Then, a couple of hours later, Brian was quietly freaking out and told me he needed my help NOW! He had gotten up to do something in the kitchen and a lizard darted across the counter. So, we got two left over party cups and I promptly scooped him up. Then, we went outside to have a look at him.
He certainly looks just like our lizard 'friend' from the microwave and was on the counter closest to the digital clock numbers. But, there really isn't a way to know for sure. Whatever the case, we took him to the opposite side of the yard and put him on the wall.
