A trip to see the dinosaurs!!

Thanks to a deal sponsored by Target last weekend, many Museums were open free to the public. A few were participating here and one happened to be the Museum of Natural History. Until I saw the deal posted on another blog, I didn't even know we had one! To my credit, it is on the opposite side of town ("town" being the term referring to almost all of Maricopa County! :) ). Then, I discovered it is also known as "the dinosaur museum". So, between my love of "free" things and Andrew's love of dinosaurs, this was a must!
After lunch, we headed out so naps could be had in the car on our way to the museum. Boy, was Andrew excited!! :)
Our first (and last) stop--the big dinosaur statue outside the museum...
It was great!! I was worried it was going to be packed, but it was fine. We were there for about two hours and were able to see a good portion of the museum, though most of our time was spent between two different dinosaur exhibits. We enjoyed touching fossils, looking at those BIG creatures, roaring at the dinosaurs, and other various dinosaur activities...
While Andrew was keen to do anything dinosaur related, Eli enjoyed sleeping:
The two hours went by pretty quickly and since the museum closed at dinner time, we decided to try a new place on that side of town, called Organ Stop Pizza (click here to see more). I actually knew about this place because my parents worked at one together in the 70s before they got married. There used to be one in a more central location, but that closed and this one in the east-valley is the only one. I've wondered for a long time what it was like and finally got to see. Holy cow, the organ was incredible--unbelievable really.
While Brian ordered for us, we were happily checking everything out and Andrew was content to play with his two new dinosaur friends.
Then, the organ began rising from beneath the floor and the music started...
Andrew was mesmerized, I of course loved it, and well, Eli...
freaked out! Not just a little fussing, no, like full on hysterical shrieking! We've been noticing that he seems pretty hyper-sensitive to changes in environment, sounds included--and this experience definitely confirmed that.
The rest of us would have happily stayed for much longer, but Eli was practically inconsolable and that does not make for a fun experience! So, we left rather quickly. But, I would definitely like to go back as it was really cool!
Maybe in another year or so he'd enjoy it...or maybe we'll have to just take Andrew back! Either way, we'll be trying it again and we'll definitely be going back to the Museum at some point too. Too bad it's not closer, otherwise, I think we'd have to have a membership! :) All in all, it was a great family outing...after all, how can you go wrong with some pizza, dinosaurs, and music?!
