My little couponing addiction has help me find yet another way to save. The local coupon magazines that come to the house recently had coupons for "Buy One, Get One free" items at a nearby Oroweat & Entenmann's Bakery Outlet. I'd been there once or twice before a long time ago, but had sort of just forgotten about it. So, the coupon was a good reminder to get me back in the store.
There are items in the store that are fresh & no different from your regular grocery store (except for their regular prices are still cheaper than grocery store price). But, the even bigger savings is in their items that are close to their sell by date. All the bread products freeze fine, so you can stock up, freeze the items and use for a long time! Plus, they have daily deal specials for items (like the cinnamon raisin english muffins were yesterday's deal for 99 cents!), a punch card (you get double punches on certain days) for free items when full, and for every $7 you spend you get to pick out a free item! And, better yet, there are coupons in the mailers!
So, here's what my trip looked like:
If you can't make it out, that's 1 bag cinnamon-raisin english muffins, 1 loaf double fiber whole wheat, 1 bag whole wheat buns, 1 72-count package of white corn tortillas, 1 bag of flaxseed meal, 2 bags of whole wheat bagel thins, 2 packages of whole wheat pitas, 2 loaves of light whole wheat, and 1 bag of sandwich thins.
Guesses on price???
At Safeway today, the Oroweat light was $4.89/loaf, the double fiber loaf was $5.49, sandwich thins- $4.29, bagel thins $2.50 each, tortillas $4.19, pita bread $2.99 each, flaxseed meal-$4.99, and the english muffins- $4.39.
Now, I would have NEVER paid regular price for most of those items at the store, but still, if someone would have purchased the exact same transaction at Safeway, they would have spent $44.11.
I spent....$14.32!!!! Pretty cool! By shopping there and putting the items in the freezer, we are able to spend less money on bread products (all of which I have purchased before at regular store) and they will last us for more than a month!!
So, if you have one of these fantastic stores nearby you, it's definitely worth checking out!!
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI freeze bread often, but have never shopped at a bread outlet... and I found out that we have one in town. I will check it out... thanks!
